Site Map

This is basically what I am going for:

I'm going for all the different ways technology is used and adapted in the Crime Lab.  I know most of these ideas came from the TV shows, so I will be making sure that they are used in the real Crime Labs today.  This is the direction I am heading in.

final topic

With the fact that I am interested in the Crime Lab, I figured I could talk about all the different areas of technology within the Crime Lab and whatnot.  One page would be Trace Evidence with the sub topics of DNA, Chemical Analysis and Chemical Compounds unless I think of a better third topic before I finish.  Another page would be on Paper Evidence with the sub topics of Finger Printing, Handwriting Analysis and Paper Trace Analysis.  The third page would be on Technology, still need a new name, and the sub topics are Ballistics, Smart Boards and Databases, still debating on the last two.  The last page would be on Autopsy and everything that has to do with the actual autopsy itself, the sub topics are Small Cameras to go view inside, Photographs, not sure this is where it will go exactly, and Virtual Autopsy, it is on TV but will find out if they actually use it in the Crime Labs.  Those are about what I am basing my four heading pages and then 12 sub topics on.  I know I still have to do digging to make sure all that I use is used in real life and not just on TV for entertainment.  This is an area that has interested me for years, so now I am going to talk about all the different technologies within the field.

Second Life

This in general is interesting.  I had told myself in the past that I would not get drawn into a virtual/all consuming, interactive internet type video game.  I still don't see the whole point behind it, but then I am not a huge social butterfly, most certainly not with strangers.  During my hour of exploration, I spent the time getting to know different areas within the site and in a since site seeing.  Talked with one or two people, mostly just saying hi when I entered a new location.  I mostly just used the time to get used to the site and interactive codes from the computer.  How to get around and what is there to see.  What can I change if I want to. Those sort of things.  I basically just played around on the site and got used to one or two things, the main thing was being on the site itself.

2nd level sites

Thinking about this assignment, I started to think about sites that I have bookmarked, but don't visit often.  Everyday or anymore depending on the site, and noticed that some of them actually are set up in the way that was talked about in class.  The first one I thought about was www.air1.com, the main link bar stays the entire time, but the parts of the music or outreach only show up when that link is clicked.

Another site that I thought about was then www.cbs.com in the fact that the shows and video links are on every page, but each show then has its own fun things or whatever.  Thinking back to sites I visited awhile ago, but didn't bookmark that are TV networks are also like that.  The ones I am thinking about are Cartoon Network and the Disney Channel, the shows are on every page, but each show has its own fun games and such to do.

The sites are all well put together, but the final is going to be a lot of work to get it all together properly.

worst/best web sites

Surfing the web always has a way of coming across interesting web pages.  I have to say the worst one I have ever come across is something I can't remember off the top of my head, its been a few months since I looked at it, so I looked googled worst web site and am using
www.angelfire.com/super/badwebs/main.htm
a web site designed to show all the mistakes made in web design.  It has broken links and dead end links. The coloring is really bad and not the best to read, and the background is very active, taking the attention away from the words.  There are also misspellings and grammar mistakes .  In all, the page is just bad, but this one is on purpose.

On the other hand, one web site that I found a few years ago that is very nice and the links have always worked on is
www.sugarquill.net/index.php
It has a nice color combination, all links work and getting inside the site, anyone could then post once they have a screen name.  I never had any problems with that site when I used it in the past.

I don't have much more to say on the sites, it's easier to say what is bad about a site than what is good.  I know both site have more to them, but that is what I noticed at a glance and visiting for a few minutes a piece.

I still can't get my pics to show and it took awhile to get everything else put together for one reason or another.
I'm doing the wrong thing on all my pics, don't know how to fix it.

40th b-day present...

Technology and everything 20 years from now, will be quite out there.  It is kinda of hard to contemplate exactly what will be on the markets by that time.  That is only being said in the light that ten years ago DVD's were not even dreamed of, and that industry is already moving on past to the better thing.  In that time jump, cassette tapes have become almost extinct, not many buy the actual CD anymore and the industry is still find ways to please the public and grow in the field.  The technology can be scary as well for the fact that with all the developments, who knows exactly how far the bio-engeenering field will have grown and all that jazz.  For instance, by that time we might be in a complete clone of the human body, down to memories, and that is boarder line creapy.  By that time, they may have also completely cured all cancers that are known at this point in time and can pervent them at birth for every child born.  We might also have an advancement in the robotics field and have actual cyborgs that interact with everyday people and can take orders.  The only scary part of that is the whole terminator and the possible outcome they already showed of the robots taking over the world.  One advancment that is on the way, it just depends on time, and 20 years might do the job, flying cars.  The kind that are in all the sci/fi furturistic films and cartoons that have huver craftes that run on a enviornmental friendly fuel.  Another car advancent is somehow getting cars to run and emmit pure water from the exahst.  That would take a lot of money, pure oxygen, and pure hydrogen, or other compounds if another clean exahst is emmited.  All the technologies in the world are advancing and there is really nothing to do about it except keep an eye on them and only do what you feel confortable with.  Nothing will stop the technologies from progressing and I see no reason to try to stop them.

mini website

Ok, mini websites.  One interest in technology that interests me is the advance in the robotics field and how humans can use the technology on themselves.  What I mean is robotic legs and maybe even hands like they show in Star Wars.

One book explains the nature and intent of human part robotics.  A second book explains the danger and risks involved with the whole process.  The third book discusses the issues involving humanoid robotics.  The final book will discuss the issues involved with robotics programed as machines to do one task only.

Looking at the source code, most of it is familiar, but there is one or two that is unclear.  I understand the <HTML>, <HEAD>, <TITLE>, <BODY>, and all the endings for those.  HTML starts and ends the whole thing, the head opens and closes the title of the page, and then the body opens up underneath.  I also recognize the <H3>, <H1>, <H5> and <IMG src=>.  All the H# mean a different sized heading and IMG src= is to open up a picture and telling from which scorce.  The last two of <P align=> and <A HREF=> are the only two that I recognize but do not know what they stand for.  But hey, 7 out of 9, not bad for learning this all a week ago.

Genetic Engineering

Changing the cells of a living organism, altering for "the better of society" is one way of putting it.  Weather it is the cells of a fruit to make it healthier and more immune to pesticides, or making babies immune to breast cancer still in the womb, it is all being done within the society we live in today.  But where is the ethical line drawn, where is "enough is enough"?

Over the past year alone, many changes have happened within the genetic engineering field.  One is that the FDA has tested and approved cloned animal products: milk, eggs, and meat, suitable for human consumption and can begin to show up on store shelves and be sold to customers.  Another advance within the field is that Japanese researches have found a way to extract and clone DNA form a rat that has been on ice for 16 years.  That proves that ice preserves the DNA, even if it is a cloned copy, the DNA is still alive.

In all, genetic engineering has a good ethical backing to with the preventing the diseases in the womb before the babies are even born, but are taking it a little far with gene splicing to form the perfect babies that are immune to everything.  That's creating GATTACA, where only the perfect can live and the imperfect are treated as dirt, they are the slaves.

Within the future, like the next 10 years, it is possible that a whole new page of genetic engineering can open up and be available to the world.  For all that to happen, creative minds just have to be insightful and look at every angle on everything, always looking for new possibilities within life.  Science is a growing field and the technology will always be there with it, society just has to keep up as well.

A quick look...

Hey everyone,

Here is a quick look into my short life.  My name is Samantha Gorin and I'm a first year here at Trinity.  My entire life before now has been spent in Mesa, AZ; and just so a map does not need to be brought out and I have constantly been asked before, 30 minutes outside of Phoenix.  I am the youngest of three girls, all of which are coincidentally all in college this year, both sisters are graduating in May.

My favorite things include curling up with a good book, normally fantasy, watching a good action movie, or just sitting back and listing to some favorite music.  That falls under the area of christian rock and musicals.  My favorite things to collect are fairy, dragon and other mythical creature figurines, my most prized is my glass phoenix.

To rap things up: I love chocolate ice cream, my favorite animals are cats, I'm indifferent about roller coasters either way, I'm not fond of video games, and I hate moon walks.

That's it for the first post.
